True Identity

Teens are stuck in a confusing stage in their lives. Teenagers are faced with the multi changing identity. Everyday they are surrounded by multiple different identities. Watching others and struggling to find their own identity, teens become overwhelmed with finding their identity. Teens get frustrated with looking for their own identity that they start to copy others in the things they do.

This video shows how teens change their minds on their identities all the time. Switching back and forth waiting to find the right one.

I believe that since teens have a hard time deciding their own identity, the teens with an identity try to influence others on their decisions. Walking through the halls at school, you see groups of friends. Groups of teens that have common interests. Teen groups that show one identity. You never really see groups of teens that are divided into different identities. Each teen from the group bringing forth their own traits. Seeing a group that has a prep, a goth, a nerd and an athlete. What kind of group are you in?

Ways you can tell someone is struggling with an identity can be found at this website: http://psychcentral.com/lib/2007/your-teens-search-for-identity/

It is for you to take the true challenge. Looking at your identity is it shaped by yourself or by the influence of others around you. Are you really being yourself or are you being someone, someone wants you to be??

Labels Lead to Bullying

A bully is someone who badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people.

Bullying is something that is very common in all schools, high schools, middle schools, and even elementary schools. Bullying happens everyday all the time. Whether it is physical, mental, or emotional, bullying is something that hurts people no matter what. People bully to get attention, to gain respect and to become more popular. I believe that some of this happens only because of labels. If there weren't labels in schools then bullies wouldn't have classified smaller or weaker people to bully on.

Because of labels there is almost like a food chain in high schools. People on the top, in the middle and at the bottom. And the ones in the middle and at the bottom are the ones that get the hurt and pain from the top bullies.

What Brand Are You??

Teenagers are a complicated group of people. They tend to find ways around everything and if they don't get their way watch out for those rebels. A major thing that is common among teens are labels or group names. The typical names you can hear are jock, emo, nerd, bully, wannabes, and so on. Being a teen I witness everyday the labels that others place on people.

"He is such a nerd."
"That girl is a bitch, the way she thinks she is all cool in the American Eagle outfit."
"I hate those kids that wear all black, those emo freaks."

Teens are the group of humans that have a hard time finding their identity or individuality. Teenagers always look at others to see what they should do or think. They rarely take the time to think of things on their own. Following others seems to be the trend. It takes a couple of years before some figure out who they really are. In this process most decide to change up their identity a couple of times.

A breakdown of some of these common titles can be found in an article at http://teen-culture.suite101.com/article.cfm/teen_stereotypes.

Teen labeling has become a part in most teens' everyday lives. Labeling is something that can't be controlled anymore. You may see someone walking down the hall at school and just becomes that day specifically they are wearing all black you decide to categorize them as "emo" (emotional). In reality they are probably just another teen. One day wearing "jock" clothes and "emo" the next. Teens have come to far with labels. Below there are a few pictures of the most common titles people are given. These pictures are the stereotypes of the titles.

Identity is something that is affected by everyday life. People putting others into groups are the ones that get categorized as well. Teen labeling is a chain effects that stays in a circle and will never end. If you had to sit down and think about it, how many groups do you have in your school? What percentage is in each group? What group are you in and why?

All these questions variety depending on the person answering it. Labeling it like colors they are a little different shade to everyone.
